The Capital of the North

With an industrial past and a modern outlook, the complex fabric of Manchester is interlaced with interesting museums, English pubs and shopping centres.

Dash straight into the luxurious Selfridges and Triangle departments stores before checking out the old-English charm of the Shambles.

Manchester wouldn’t be the same without its 2 famous football clubs and fans can go wild at either of the Old Trafford or City of Manchester Stadiums. Music fans will adore the many shows performed at the Manchester Arena, the largest of its type in Europe, and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

The cultural foundations of this predominantly red-brick city are on display at the Manchester Museum and the People’s History Museum. If art is you preference, the extensive pre-Raphaelite collection at the Manchester Art Gallery is a sight to behold.

I was on holiday from Lagos, Nigeria.

I was on holiday from Lagos, Nigeria. I have spent few days in London. I booked this hotel before arriving the UK. I decided to spend few days in Manchester. I took a walk to and from the hotel to the train station and the areas around. The City is beautiful and great seeing . The City is very clean. Great plan for pedestrian walking and crossing the road. I was at the Hilton for dinner.

    The old buildings were stunning.

The old buildings were stunning. The people were very friendly. We felt very safe walking around. We were there for the AJ Bell Great Manchester race. 18 of us travelled from Ireland and we had a great weekend and would highly recommend this race to all runners. Some of us did the half marathon and others did the 10k. So well organised and fantastic support from the public and volunteers. We also visited the Coronation Street set. We'll worth a visit. We were in walking distance to most things and got a taxi to the Coronation street tour.

Manchester is a great city full of life, interesting night life but also full of peaceful and quiet places. Together with the canals running throughout the city center anyone can find a perfect spot to hang out and have fun. Not to mention the city´s great industrial and music history which it still lives up to. Locals are usually friendly and welcoming. It really is a one of a kind place, worth visiting at least once in a life time. Classic british pubs or modern craft beer pubs, fancy coffee shops, but also a lot of affordable options to eat. Traffic can be relatively difficult but public transport options are fast and reasonable.

Manchester is a very vibrant attractive city with lots of arts and culture and the tram system is superb, especially for a wheelchair. People are full of northern charm and humour. Ppl hold doors open and help with the wheelchair as opposed to the attitude down south that you are inconveniencing them! Always look forward to going back.

Manchester does not have enough green space in the centre!

Manchester does not have enough green space in the centre! (I stayed in Piccadilly).it doesn't have an 'old town' per se, either. I don't really understand the city planning that went into this place. The Manchester Museum was a bit of a bust, but the People's Museum of Manchester was outstanding. I wouldn't go out of my way to travel to Manchester again.

Lovely peaceful location with easy access to Manchester City Centre, as well as walking distance to Lowry Gallery & Theatre plus Media City and Salford Quays eating/drinking and shopping. Fabulous surprise to find such a comprehensive array of things to help make a stay comfortable in the room. The design and styling were also first rate and for the first time in a UK City centre hotel managed to get a goo night's sleep with the very comfortable bed and pillows and air condition that worked quietly. Just goes to prove that a UK offer can be just as good as the best on the continent. Location of course being so central perfect. Well done, we will be back!

The hotel receptionist at the time (I think he was called Adam) was absolutely amazing. He gave us some amazing advice on how best to get to Manchester city centre and which part of the Christmas market to aim for. The spa was amazing, and just what we needed for the short break. The room was small, but catered to our needs as the bed was extremely comfortable. Would highly recommend staying here.
